REDFOO: PARTY ROXY MANSION
3/29/16

by Simon Glickman

One thing you gotta say about Redfoo: Muhfugga knows how to get the party started. The LMFAO co-founder's album release party at L.A.'s Roxy last weekend was as jubilant a club show as I can recall, as Foo and his crew of players, dancers and prop-wielding helpers cranked up their theatrical EDM-pop for a high-octane night of dance and debauchery.

The mostly very young crowd, wielding inflatable animals and rocking glasses and day-glo colors emulating their hero's very loud palette, exploded with energy. One young fan came up onstage for "the funnel," a booze-fueled rite du passage somewhat akin to the beer bong; we don't dare ask what was in that funnel.

But even those of us in the crowd of a, let us say, earlier vintage could appreciate the vibe. To me it was reminiscent of the quirky, inclusive party atmosphere of The B-52's back in the day.

Redfoo's new album, Party Rock Mansion, is being self-released, but we don't imagine he'll be indie for long.
