CROSSOVER
THE BALLSTREET JOURNAL

As I sit at my desk writing this column, I am surrounded by more than 30 inches of new snow. The entire East Coast was just blanketed with a historic amount of white powder [Editor’s Note: Speaking of white powder, God, we miss the ‘80s…]. Being stranded in your house, only going out to shovel for the eighth time and feeling like a caged animal is no way to spend your weekend. Things are just now getting back to normal here, but every school and government office is still closed. I don’t think I will see my yard until March, as I just read more snowfall is coming later in the week.

Well, things are much better for Gary Spangler, Davey Dee and Stef Cole at Republic, as they lock in yet another #1 record. Drake & Future’s “Jumpman” (YMCMB/A1/Epic) sits on top this week, unseating Travi$ Scott’s “Antidote” (Grand Hustle). The Weeknd’s “In The Night” (XO) moves to #4 with a 410-spin gain and is on pace to be #1 within two weeks, while Belly f/The Weeknd’s “Might Not” (CP/Roc Nation) takes a huge jump, going #37-28 and up 400 spins. They’re impacting Mike Posner’s “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” (Island) this week, and Post Malone’s “Too Young” impacts next week. Remember, Malone is coming off a debut single that went #1.

Def Jam’s Rick Sackheim, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness have Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” leaping #18-13 this week with an increase over 500 spins. Jeremih‘s “Oui” clocks in at #21, up 160 spins. Fabolous f/Nicki Minaj’s “Doin’ It Well” debuts at #36 this week, and Kanye West f/Ty Dolla $ign’s “Real Friends” (G.O.O.D.) just misses debuting at #43. DJ Mustard f/Travi$ Scott’s “Whole Lotta Lovin” (Roc Nation) will impact this week while continuing to grow. Alessia Cara’s next single, “Wild Things,” is creating a good buzz and impacts in the next few weeks. Now for a quick round of applause to Rick and his staff for the job they did at BOTH Rhythm and Top 40 with Alessia. At Top 40, its run to #1 was the longest in the history of the charts. Persistence pays off! Rick and company also have the Top 3 records on the Top 40 chart this week.

RCA remains red-hot, as John Strazza, Inca and Lori G take G-Eazy’s “Me, Myself & I” Top 10. The song was up 500 spins and is exploding at Top 40 as well. Right behind it is Bryson Tiller’s “Don’t,” which rises #14-11, also up a healthy 500 spins. Chris Brown’s “Back to Sleep” is at #17, after an increase of 235 spins. Kid Ink’s “Promise” shoots to #23 thanks to a 375+ spin gain. A new one from Bryson Tiller, “Exchange,” is already buzzing at Rhythm and moves up to #47 with 65 additional spins. This momentum is being led by Urban where the track exploded this week, going #37-25 at the format. This is definitely one that’ll be on your stations sooner than later.

Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White have The Chainsmokers f/Rozes’ “Roses” (Disruptor) at #14, up 220 spins, with the immediate goal of breaking the Top 10. They just impacted The Internet’s “Girl” (Odd Future) and it’s already at #58, gaining 140 spins. Up next is Adele’s “When We Were Young” (XL), whose album still sells more than 125k a week. That single’s currently #12 on iTunes. There are a few mixes that add tempo, making it a perfect fit for most stations.

Sujit Kundu and team Epic have Yo Gotti’s “Down in the DM” at #12 this week, posting up a 355-spin increase. Puff Daddy & The Family’s “You Could Be My Lover” (Bad Boy) moves inside the Top 50 this week, and Mack Wilds’ “Love in the 90z” is just getting started.

Lee L’Heureux and Warner Bros. see Jason Derulo’s “Get Ugly” (Beluga Heights) move inside the Top 20 this week. It was up 130 spins and continues to gain new stations each week. There will also be a new Macklemore & Ryan Lewis track in the next few weeks.
