CROSSOVER
THE BALLSTREET JOURNAL

If you could put two artists together to collaborate on a #1 record, I would guess most people would choose Drake and Rihanna. Well, these lovebirds did just that, and it goes #1 this week. “Too Good” (YMCMB) climbs the ladder and rings the bell at the top of the stack.

I have had a number of programmers “complain” about the amount of Drake on their playlist. I was under the impression that you should be playing hits, and that is exactly what he has been doing the last three years. I get that it may be difficult at times to schedule, but playing the hits has NEVER lost a station ratings. Just my 2 cents.

Gary Spangler, Davey Dee and Stef Cole at Republic also have Kungs & Cookin' on 3 Burners’ “This Girl” (Casablanca) at #23, and the new Ariana Grande f/Nicki Minaj “Side To Side” at #42, sure to debut next week. They also have a number of brand new tracks that are growing, including Amine’s “Caroline,” which was up over 125 spins, Hailee Steinfeld & Grey f/Zedd’s “Starving,” and Post Malone f/Justin Bieber’s “Déjà vu.” They also have Belly’s “Ballerina”(Roc Nation) which is just getting started.

Epic’s Sujit Kundu sees DJ Khaled ” f/Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown’s “Do You Mind” (We The Best) slide to #17, up over 300 spins. Travis Scott & Young Thug’s “Pick Up The Phone” continues to gain momentum. The sales for Scott’s LP Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight were huge, and the song gains 75 spins and moves to #37. Meghan Trainor f/Yo Gotti’s “Better” is up 50 spins, and climbs to #55. Epic is doing a double impact this week: Kent Jones, who is coming off a #1 record, with “Alright” as well as Zara Larrson’s “Ain’t My Fault” (Record Company TEN).

Def Jam’s Rick Sackheim, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness’ hard work and never say die attitude is evident as they welcome Kanye West f/Kid Cudi’s “Father Stretch My Hands” (G.O.O.D.) into the top 10. It was up 365 spins. They are also impacting the brand new Kanye, “Fade,” this week. Major Lazer f/Justin Bieber and MO’s “Cold Water” (Mad Decent) moves to #6, gaining 340 spins, and has its sights set on top 5 next week. DJ Mustard f/Nicki Minaj and Jeremih’s “Don’t Hurt Me” (Roc Nation) has a nice week, moving #38-#33, up 70 spins. They debut Desiigner’s “Timmy Turner” (G.O.O.D.) this week at #39, thanks to an increase of 130 spins. Logic’s “Flexicution” just misses, debuting at #41.

Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White see The Chainsmokers f/Halsey’s “Closer” leap to #9 from #14 this week, gaining 560 spins. That was good enough to be this week’s greatest gainer. Beyonce’s “Hold Up” also had quite a week, as she moves #25-#20, tacking on another 310 spins. Russ’s “What They Want” lands at #27, after grinding out 220 new spins. They are impacting a brand new Calvin Harris, “My Way,” this week. It is currently at #3 on the iTunes chart. It is safe to say this will be another big one for him.

Over at RCA, Inca and Lori G have Usher’s “No Limit” at #4 and still growing. Bryson Tiller’s “Sorry Not Sorry” climbs to #25, while Tinashe’s “Superlove” moves #33-29, up more than 100 spins. Rob $tone f/J. Davi$ & Spooks’ “Chill Bill” has a very impressive week. It was up over 135 spins, and moves to #45. Ayo Jay’s “Your Number” slides to #54 this week. Afrojack f/Ty Dolla $ign’s “Gone” (Latium) is at #68, with an increase of 70 spins.

Capitol’s Dixie Tipton, fresh off her vacation to Greece, comes back to Lil’ Yachty’s “1 Night” (QC/Motown) debuting at #36. It gains 160 spins and continues to pick up steam.

Lee L’Huereux and WB are just getting started with Mac Miller’s “Dang!” It gains 160 spins and looks to make a splash on the chart next week.
