CROSSOVER
THE BALLSTREET JOURNAL

Who says you never have a second chance to make a first impression?

After a week at #2, “Starboy” from Republic’s The Weeknd (XO) climbs back to the #1 spot. It certainly doesn’t happen often, but it is a testament to the power and popularity of this song. Gary Spangler, Davey Dee and Stef Cole also have the Ariana Grande f/Nicki Minaj “Side To Side” landing at #6 this week. It was up a rock solid 450 spins, and is just a monster at Top 40 as well. Drake’s “Fake Love” (YMCMB) rockets inside the top 10 as well. It took only three weeks after initial impact to achieve this. That is what an 815 spin increase will do for you! Right behind is Amine’s “Caroline.” This was up 215 spins. It continues to grab new believers, as well as stations moving this up based on sales, streams and Shazam numbers. Hailee Steinfeld & Grey f/Zedd’s “Starving” also continues to grab new believers each week, as she just misses the chart at #42. Justine Skye’s “U Don’t Know” comes in at #51 this week.

It wasn’t a great last week or so for Def Jam’s Kanye West. If it is indeed a mental health issue, we all wish him well in his recovery. Canceling his remaining 20 or so shows is far less important in the grand scheme of things. Rick Sackheim and Noah Sheer are laser focused on Rihanna’s “Love On The Brain” (Westbury Entertainment/Roc Nation), which is now #17 after gaining 260 spins. Ri-Ri also has “Sex With Me” at #36, a record that has been a programmer favorite for a number of months. This one was up triple digits as well. Big Sean’s “Bounce Back” had a monster week as it was up 470 spins, good enough to land him inside the top 25. Alessia Cara’s “Scars To Your Beautiful” has a break out week, gaining 185 spins. She just misses debuting this week at #42, but is sure to have a strong showing next week. Jeremih’s “London” is still early, and building each week.

Dixie Tipton and Capitol are full steam ahead with Trey Songz’ “Push It On Me” (Motown). After just two weeks, it is already sitting at #29. It was up 395 spins this week, and is basically on clean up mode! Also, make sure you are up on Jon Bellion’s “All Time Low.” It is at #61, and starting to see a buzz develop.

Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White have John Legend’s “Love Me Now” at #25. Sales are still solid, and it is a perfect female record. He has some exciting upcoming appearances on late night TV, and this song is the featured song on ESPN for all of December. They are impacting a new Beyonce, “All Night,” next week.

Epic and Sujit Kundu are reloading with a number of hot, new tracks. 21 Savage & Metro Boomin’ f/Future’s “X” (Slaughter Gang) sees an increase of 140 spins as it closes in on a debut. It is at #48 this week. Future’s “Used To This” (Freebandz/A-1) is quickly creating a buzz, and is a few weeks from debuting. Nick Grant’s “Get Up” is still developing, and they are impacting A Tribe Called Quest’s “We The People” this week. The sales on the LP were very impressive. And make sure you check out the new Travis Scott “Goosebumps.”

Over at RCA, Inca and Lori G have Rob $tone’s “Chill Bill” at #18, up 175 spins. The plan is to take this top 15 before the holidays. Sia f/Kendrick Lamar’s “The Greatest” (Monkey Puzzle) continues to develop. It is #34 this week, gaining 75 spins. Martin Garrix and BeBe Rexha’s “In The Name Of Love” was up nearly 100 spins, and moves “57-49 this week. Alicia Keys f/A$AP Rocky’s “Blended Family” also had a nice week, as it sees a 125 spin increase. It is currently at #54 on the chart, and looks to debut in the next few weeks.
