All the hard-hitting performances on Legacy’s new DVD/CD package Outlaw: Celebrating the Music of Waylon Jennings were recorded at ACL Live in Austin on 7/6/15, and they’re all slammin’. Among the contributors: contemporaries Willie Nelson and Kris Kirstofferson; such spiritual heirs as Chris Stapleton, Lee Ann Womack, Eric Church, Kacey Musgraves, Jamey Johnson, Bobby Bare, Robert Earl Keen, Sturgill Simpson, Ryan Bingham, Alison Krauss, Ryan Bingham and Toby Keith; and actual heir Shooter Jennings. The DVD set also features an array of extras and precious background, but the new performances amply demonstrate how vividly Jennings’ music still burns in the modern country sensibility. Among the many highlights: Stapleton’s “I Ain’t Living Long Like This,” Womack’s “Ride Me Down Easy,” Musgraves' "The Wurlitzer Prize," the Krauss-Johnson tandem "I Ain't the One," Church's "Lonesome, On'ry and Mean" and all of Nelson’s various duets and collaborations, which dominate the back half of the set.
