Iconic Entertainment

CLIENTS: Kelsea Ballerini, Levi Hummon, Joel Crouse

HIGHLIGHTS: Kelsea Ballerini being in the Grammys space, launching her new single and getting ready for album two. It’s definitely a record that has growth to it, musically and lyrically, and it’s going to be incredibly well- received.

WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU NOTED IN NASHVILLE, AND HOW ARE YOU ADJUSTING YOUR BUSINESS AND YOUR STRATEGY TO THE CHANGES IN NASHVILLE?
The last time I think this seismic of a shift happened was probably the late ’80s-early ’90s. Lots of people came from New York and L.A.; it dramatically changed the way that the business was being done. Country music became much more pop.

As for us, we’ve built our roster a lot more. While we’ve got Kelsea, we’ve found other artists that are not just country. We’ve signed Joel Crouse, who’s rock, Levi Hummon, who’s a pop-rock thing. If there’s diverse music coming out in the community, diverse A&R people come here from New York and L.A. to find music that’s not just country. So diversification is one thing. I think there used to be this philosophy of being very precious with music, and waiting until the record was perfect; now there’s a philosophy of putting music out and letting it grow. If you need to upgrade it or reproduce it at a higher level you can, but there’s not this preciousness that there used to be with records. You can produce three or four different styles of records on artists these days. It could be an acoustic version, a rock version; they can kind of grow as the audience grows around the artist.
