STATE OF THE STATE: BIG MACHINE LABEL GROUP
7/7/17
Scott Borchetta’s engine that could had another monster with Florida Georgia Line’s #1 “God, Your Mama and Me,” while Thomas Rhett established his bona fides as a mainstream star with a Grammy nom to add to his ACM Male Vocalist win. Brett Young fired two singles to #1, and Brantley Gilbert, Reba McEntire, Cheap Trick and FGL all took turns as top-selling release. Carly Pearce scored with “Every Little Thing,” while Team Machine broke newcomers Midland in a big way, as the breezy “Drinkin’ Problem” became the label’s fastest-rising debut single since its inception. And speaking of drinkin’, BMLG launched its own vodka line. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift made a dramatic return to the streaming world. Mike Rittberg came aboard as the company’s first Chief Marketing Officer, and a partnership with Bell Media has Borchetta exec-producing and starring in new TV music-competition series The Launch, co-starring Ryan Tedder and Fergie and airing next year. You can also watch Big Machine TV, a proprietary video platform in tandem with Comcast.
