HITS READERS TAP U2, ALICIA KEYS AS LIKELY GRAMMY WINNERS

Proving That Our Readers Are Every Bit as Smart as the Experts
The so-called smart money is on U2 and Alicia Keys for this year's Grammy Awards ceremony on Feb. 27 at L.A.'s Staples Center.

And while HITS subscribers and "smart money" have rarely been used in the same sentence, our half-dozen or so avid readers are in total agreement with the experts, if preliminary results of our scientifically correct Grammy Survey are to be believed.

U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind leads in the Album of the Year category, with 64% of the vote, followed by Bob Dylan's Love and Theft with 15%, O Brother Where Art Thou? at 12%, India.Arie's Acoustic Soul with 5.8% and OutKast's Stankonia picking up the rear at 2.9%.

Alicia Keys was the other big winner, topping the poll for Song of the Year ("Fallin'" at 50% over U2's "Stuck In a Moment You Can't Get Out Of" at 20%), Record of the Year ("Fallin'" at 56% over closest competitor U2's "Walk On" at 22%), Best New Artist (a runaway 75% over India.Arie at 11.5%) and Best R&B Album (Songs In A Minor with 37% over Aaliyah at 31%).

U2, meanwhile, topped the Best Rock Album category with 67% over Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory at 27%.

The Producer of the Year sports the most heated competition, with O Brother's T Bone Burnett holding a slight lead at 30% over Dr. Dre (29%) and Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis (21%).

In the much-anticipated Best Polka Album, Walter Ostanek and his Band's Happy Times is in the lead, sporting 32% of the vote, followed closely by Brave Combo's Kick Ass Polka (23%), perennial winner Jimmy Sturr's Gone Polka (22%), Lenny Gomulka & Chicago Push's Lenny Live (16%) and Eddie Blazonczyk's Versatones (6%), which trails only because 62.3% of our voters couldn't spell Eddie's name. May the best accordion player win.

Remember folks, this is just an exhibition. It's not a competition, so no betting.
