WHEELS 2.0 ROLLS OUT A SPECIAL LABOR DAY WEEKEND RECAP

With the holiday weekend approaching, we decided to just do a simple recap of some of our favorite bands from the last couple months. But because we just can’t help ourselves, we’re spotlighting one new act, a rap duo from South Florida who are starting to create a major buzz. Be safe, enjoy the long weekend and keep sending music to feed our addiction at at [email protected]. No matter how far we may be from the City of Angels this weekend, our computers are always close by.

So South: Miami continues to be a hotbed for new talent and New Sessions Music Group’s So South may be the most anticipated group to come out of South Florida in ages. So South is J Twist and Rush Hour, and they are more than rappers—they’re entertainers. What makes this group so impressive is they’re constantly on the grind, always at major events handing out flyers, CDs and their way-cool So South bags, which include new music, T-shirts, DVDs, etc. This hard work has not gone unnoticed as they have toured with and opened up for many recording artists such as Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Bone Thugs, Young Joc and Pitbull. They may be from the South, but with a growing fan base and DJs requesting their music from all over, it’s clear they have a sound that can break through to not only their own region, but the Midwest, East Coast and even parts of the West Coast as well. Their current single “Juke all Night,” off their forthcoming album The Hangover, is currently on the radio, so be sure to keep an ear out for this hot group. (www.myspace.com/sosouth)

Here are some highlights of bands we’ve been covering that we think have some major potential:
Ladies of the Canyon: Thanks to Chris Taylor for turning us on to this Montreal foursome, who infuse the sounds of The Dixie Chicks and The Indigo Girls with their own sweet folk/pop sound, which is more than a little bit country. The band is currently finishing up their debut album and creating quite the buzz, generating new fans and press in local media. Jeremy Greene: This pop/R&B phenom from Waterville, ME, who’s signed to MySpace Records and is managed by Joe Simpson, is starting to create an enormous buzz online. Jeremy has north of 88k friends and 15 million song plays, including nearly 500k for his single “Rain” this month alone. Additionally, he recently appeared in an episode of Living Lohan. Keep your eyes on this one, and look for a big Top 40 push in the near future. (www.myspace.com/jeremygreene)

These Green Eyes: Signed to Ben Goldman’s label, this band is building massive momentum. They were chosen as a Purevolume “Pure Pick,” which put them on the homepage for a week. Thanks to the exposure, they’re now dominating the site’s charts. Be sure to check out the video for their song “Sucker Punch” exclusively on Purevolume. This World Fair: Led by self-taught musician Chris Kalgren, these Minnesota pop-rockers just came off a hugely successful month-long tour of the U.S. With top-notch performances that definitely wrangled new fans, This World Fair has proven that the Twin Cities still know how to rock. TWF’s music was featured in last year’s DreamWorks/Paramount film Disturbia and will be heard on the soundtrack of the upcoming film The Other Side of the Tracks, from the producers of Ray and Beowulf. Managed by Grammy -winning producer Stephen Short of Ping Pong Music, This World Fair is sure to continue capturing fans via songs like “Drama” and “This Morning,” which will have you reaching for the “repeat” button. Terry Lynn: Ahh, the Last Gang guys just keep feeding us massively talented artists who have really cool stuff going on. The environment in which Lynn grew up—Waterhouse, an impoverished neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica—provides the social backdrop for much of her writing. Her sound has been described as Daft Punk meets Marley meets Malcolm X. Once you hear her music and understand her message, it will truly strike your soul. Terry speaks for those who can’t speak—the poor, the underprivileged and the disenfranchised. Her video for her single “Kingstonlogic,” featuring photography by Peter Dean Rickards of The Afflicted Yard, can be seen online at www.kingstonlogic.com. Her album, Kingstonlogic 2.0, is set to drop Sept. 23. We love artists who stand for something and have something positive to bring to the scene, and Terry Lynn is doing just that.
