SEASON PREMIERE:
THE IVANA & LENNY SHOW
On a Rainy Early October Day, the PoMo Burns & Allen Take a Few Minutes to Compare Musical Notes the Old-Fashioned Way—Via IM
IVANA: It's a good week for me because two of my absolute favorite artists have new CDs: Guster and Pete Yorn. I love Jewish boys who rock
LENNY: what about jewish boys who like rock?
IVANA: down a tier or two from scottish boys who rock
LENNY: eh, i get it
IVANA: And it's also a great week because Arcade Fire are in town doing two sold-out shows at the Shrine, so I don't have to travel to see them
LENNY: and, the clippers play their first exhibition game of the season today..... ahh, no injuries yet to report
IVANA: banner weeks for us both!
LENNY: correct, i've been hanging out with big b'way and hollywood stars this week, have i missed any interesting radio developments?
IVANA: I even ventured out of the house last Saturday night to see Matt & Kim play in front of thousands of fans! Their new single "Cameras" is a SMASH. Regarding radio, the placement of a few pagers determines the fate of a station's ratings, so that's fun. and two radio legends, Jim Trapp and Sean Lynch are now battling it out in Vegas at KXTE and KVGS
LENNY: wow, hot fun in the sun. former HITS staffer Connie Breeze is also new in the vegas radio wars doing Rhythm
IVANA: I wish I could've been in Vegas last weekend for the Matador @ 21 festivities. most of my favorite Matador bands, past and present, played.
LENNY: was there massive angularity?
IVANA: Interpol wasn't there, but i'm sure that the rest of the roster made up for any lost angularity
LENNY: how are things going on my faves, Paper Tongues?
IVANA: it's building, with new adds this week at KEXX and KRXP. Ben Berkman's track record is flawless, so I have no doubt he'll break this one too
LENNY: excellent, i've been following them for some time and think “Higher” will be their breakthru..... great songs are making their way
IVANA: Like Thirty Seconds To Mars' "Closer to the Edge," which sorta reminds me of OMD's "Tesla Girls"
LENNY: not familiar with OMD's oeuvre, but "Closer" is a smash..... and speaking of great songs, i see some are venturing out on my fave from Mumford + Sons, “The Cave”
IVANA: I'm obsessed with the new Phoenix single "Lasso," which will be another Top 10 Modern Rock hit. Actually, I'm obsessed with EVERYTHING Phoenix-related.
LENNY: phoenix suns? phoenix cardinals? arizona state university?
IVANA: and I'm thrilled for Cake, who are scoring a big Modern Rock hit with "Sick of You."
LENNY: btw, speaking of Cake, are they the ones in the ipod nano commercial?
IVANA: yes, it's an older song called "Short Skirt, Long Jacket."
LENNY: i love that one also. many varieties of cake are appealing--- pies, tortes, etc
IVANA: Dennis Blair is closing Florence & the Machine's "Dog Days are Over," which I LOVE LOVE LOVE
LENNY: Blair has been a machine from the day he walked in the building..... and he likes the Clippers
IVANA: Phoenix is playing Madison Square Garden in a few weeks (the band, not the NBA team). That will be a magical night!
LENNY: i'm sure the nba team will be there soon as well
IVANA: It's incredible how many tickets bands like Phoenix, Weezer, Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, etc. are selling. And the key tour markets coincide with where these bands have airplay, so I can't understand why other programmers believe these bands aren't radio-friendly
LENNY: because they are wrong?
IVANA: indeed.
LENNY: because this ppm thing has people upside down?
IVANA: there’s that. on that uplifting note, say goodnight, gracie
LENNY: goodnight gracie and hello nba season..... life is good
