Doug Davis assembling group to buy Hawks

DOUG’S A BALLER: Entertainment and sports attorney Doug Davis (Lil Jon, Swizz Beatz, the artist formerly known as Ron Artest) is assembling an investment coalition comprising music and entertainment execs, artists and celebs in an effort to buy the Atlanta Hawks, Page Six reported over the weekend. Controlling owner Bruce Levenson said he’d decided to sell the team after acknowledging that he’d sent a racially insensitive internal email two years ago bemoaning the fact that not enough white fans were coming to games (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and ESPN’s Jason Whitlock subsequently came to Levenson’s defense, asserting that he was a businessman, not a racist). While the Hawks won’t come cheap in these salad days for the NBA, the franchise will likely sell for significantly less than the $2 billion Steve Ballmer paid for the L.A. Clippers. Can Doug pull off this rad crossover move? Stay tuned. (9/15a)
