SONY STARTS EDM LABEL IN CHINA

Sony Music and China’s Tencent Music Entertainment Group have formed a label dedicated to EDM by Asian and international DJs. It is the first foray into a label for Tencent, China’s largest gaming and social media company.

The label, called Liquid State, started this week in Hong Kong and adds to the offerings at Tencent Music, which competes with Alibaba and is expected to be spun off in an IPO this year.

Tencent Music says its apps—QQ Music, Kugou Music and Kuwo Music— have 700m monthly active users. Last month, Tencent and Spotify announced a stake swap agreement to gain a minority stake in each other’s company.
