The Recording Academy is honoring Melissa Salguero of P.S. 48 Joseph R. Drake Elementary School with the 2018 Music Educator Award.
Located in the South Bronx, P.S. 48 is in the poorest congressional district in the U.S. And when Salguero came on board, the school's music program lacked funding, as well as instruments. Despite these difficulties, she remained (and remains) committed to giving her students the best education possible. Basically, she's a real life rockstar.
It's extremely important to support and recognize the people who keep creativity alive in schools. Vote for the 2019 award recipient right here.
