R. KELLY FACES THE MUSIC

R. Kelly has had sexual misconduct allegations thrown against him for the last twenty years, without a single one sticking in a court of law. He's been aqcuitted of charges even in the presence of video evidence of him abusing a minor. There's been persistent evidence and testimony of his violent and sexual abuse of women, including minors, since the '90s.

Yet the continuing support of his ever-loyal fan base and employees enabled his reputation, career and financial status to remain intact and relatively unmarred. He continued to put out records and interviews and sell out concerts–until now.

Last summer the #muteRKelly campaign started in the wake of several prominent male figures being held accountable for their own history of misconduct. The campaign's aim was to bring Kelly's career to a halt and, in so doing, hold him accountable.

Times Up supported the movement with the following statement, recently in a New York Times piece: “The scars of history make certain that we are not interested in persecuting anyone without just cause. With that said, we demand appropriate investigations and inquiries into the allegations of R. Kelly’s abuse made by women of color and their families for over two decades now.”

The #muteRKelly movement has already gained the public support of Ava Duvernay, Lena Waithe, John Legend, Tarana Burke and the creator of #MeToo.
