HOAGY FILLS RESERVOIR

“Georgia on My Mind,” “Heart and Soul,” “The Nearness of You” and one of the most popular songs of the first half of the 1900s, “Stardust,” are now in the hands of Reservoir following the publisher’s acquisition of a global stake in the Hoagy Carmichael catalog.

The deal, conducted with Carmichael's son Hoagy Bix Carmichael Jr. and other heirs, adds 500 Carmichael titles to the company’s portfolio, among them “Skylark” and the Oscar-winning “In the Cool, Cool, Cool, of the Evening.” Rights vary from territory to territory.

“It’s such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with a catalog like this,” says Reservoir SVP of A&R and Catalog Development Faith Newman. “It brings to Reservoir some of the most iconic works in the Great American Songbook, which are just as extraordinary now as when they were written.”

Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Willie Nelson and Louis Armstrong are among the artists who have had hits with Carmichael’s songs, about 50 of which were major hits between 1930 and the early '60s.
