SHEERAN SHAPES UP AT BMI LONDON AWARDS

Tinie Tempah’s Imhotep Music picked up its first-ever BMI London Award. Doing the honors were, from left, BMI EVP, Creative & Licensing, Mike Steinberg, Tempah, Sony/ATV's Guy Moot, BMI's Kevin Benz and Sony/ATV's Niels Walboomers.

Ed Sheeran received the most performed Song of the Year gong at Monday night’s BMI London Awards for the third year in a row, this time for “Shape of You” alongside co-writer Johnny McDaid. Film composer Harry Gregson-Williams was honored with the Icon Award.

“Shape of You," which also credits TLC's "No Scrubs" writer Kevin Briggs due to melodic similarities, is published by Ed Sheeran Music, Sony/ATV and Spirit B-Unique Polar Patrol. Sheeran won Song of the Year in 2017 for “Love Yourself” by Justin Bieber and for his own “Thinking Out Loud” in 2016.

The ceremony, which celebrates U.K. and European songwriters, producers and publishers of the most-performed songs of 2017, took place at London’s swanky Dorchester Hotel. Among those in attendance were former One Directioner Liam Payne, who’s dominating headlines this morning after hinting at a 1D reunion and a collaboration with bandmate Louis Tomlinson.

Other winners included the writers of “Stay” by Alessia Cara for Dance Song of the Year—Anders Froen, Noonie Bao, Linus “LotusIV” Wicklund, Sarah Aarons and Cara herself. Tinie Tempah’s publishing company Imhotep Music picked up its first ever award for “Passionfruit” as performed by Drake, and produced by its own London-based Nana Rogues.

Also honored were Caroline Ailin and Ian Kirkpatrick for Dua Lipa’s “New Rules,” Sam Smith for “Too Good at Goodbyes,” Jamie Hartman for “Human” as performed by Rag’n’Bone Man, and Jack Patterson, Ina Wroldsen and Ammar Malik for the U.K. #1 hit single “Rockabye,” as performed by Clean Bandit & Anne Marie f/Sean Paul.
