CHART STORY:
IT’S JUICE’S WRLD

Grade A/Interscope’s Juice WRLD just scored his first #1 album with Death Race for Love—the follow-up to his much-talked-about debut, Goodbye & Good Riddance. The sophomore set dominates the HITS Top 50 Chart with a whopping 164k, marking quite the rise since its predecessor, which opened with 24k last spring. In tandem with this fresh success, Goodbye enjoys a nice bump, moving #20-15.

The week’s next-biggest new release comes from Columbia Nashville’s Maren Morris, whose Girl bows with 45k to arrive at #4.

With the exception of Morris, Universal reigns over the Top 5 with Juice, Ariana Grande’s thank u, next (Republic), which pulled in another 73k at #2, Interscope’s Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper-led A Star Is Born soundtrack (#3, 48k) and Hollywood’s Queen-filled Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack (#5, 36k).

Unsurprisingly, UMG wins the marketshare race with 56%. WMG follows with 26% and SME is #3 with 17%, while the indies claim 1%. Streeting this week are projects by GroundUp’s Snarky Puppy and BMG’s Karen O & Danger Mouse. Coincidentally, Snarky Puppy is also HITS Senior Editor Simon Glickman’s pet name for President of His Desk Todd Hensley.

The next major release on deck will come from another Interscope act—the red-hot Billie Eilish. WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? (Darkroom) is due in two weeks, on 3/29. The breakout star’s premier full-length is poised to challenge Republic’s Grande for the biggest bow of the year so far. Stay tuned for more on that.
