LOVE SMASHES SHAZAM RECORD

British reality TV series Love Island has set a new U.K. record for the five most Shazamed tracks in the U.K. in one day. More than 1m Shazams have been generated across 49 episodes in series five, with Joel Corry's "Sorry" (Asylum) taking first place on 41k.

Love Island viewer numbers have been steadily creeping up since the series launched in the U.K. in 2015; the first episode for series five hit a record 3.3m in June. Average numbers across the whole series, which ended Monday, have yet to be published.

The current Top 5 most Shazamed tracks in the U.K. in one day were all featured on Love Island's latest series.

"Sorry" by DJ/producer Joel Corry, featured in the episode airing on 7/24, rocketed to the top of Shazam's U.K. chart the following day on 41k Shazams. The track had jumped 22 places to a new peak inside the Top 20 at #16 on this week's Official Singles midweeks.

Singer/songwriter Lusaint was the first artist to break the one-day Shazam record after her cover of "More Than Friends" (Tristar), featured on the 6/11 show, received 23k Shazams in the U.K. that day. The track hit #1 on Shazam's U.K. chart on 6/16.

Soon after, two tracks broke the same record in one week, before being surpassed by Joel Corry. On 7/1, "Dance On The Table" (Columbia) by London duo CLiQ received 29k Shazams, before Grace Carter’s cover of "Wicked Game" (Polydor) smashed CLiQ’s record on 7/3 with 34k Shazams in the U.K. that day.

Florence + The Machine’s "Jenny of Oldstones" (Island) holds the worldwide one-day record, set in April after being featured in the second episode of Game of Thrones' final season.

ITV’s Hayley Smith is the music supervisor for the series, which films contestants stranded in a villa in Mallorca while trying to maintain varying degrees of successful couples to compete for a £50k prize.
