GLASTONBURY LIVES ON AT BBC
5/27/20

Despite the disappearance of Glastonbury from this year's calendar, the BBC is celebrating what would have been the festival's 50th anniversary edition with special coverage from its archive. Performances by Adele, Beyoncé and, for the first time, David Bowie will be broadcast in full on TV.

From 6/25-29, The Glastonbury Experience will be brought to viewers at home across BBC Television, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio and BBC Sounds. Alongside those mentioned above, footage will include also sets from Coldplay and Jay-Z.

BBC Pop Controller Lorna Clarke said: “Glastonbury Festival has for decades been a huge moment in the BBC’s music calendar, thanks to Michael and Emily’s magical creation. Even though Worthy Farm can’t be full of thousands of music lovers this year, the BBC will celebrate with four days of memories and archive footage to give our audience a taste of the festival in their own homes.”

BBC iPlayer will host a pop-up Glastonbury channel with more than 60 historic sets available to watch on-demand. Highlights on BBC Radio include a series of special shows from Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 beginning 6/22, while Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis will join Lauren Laverne on her BBC Radio 6 Music morning programme on 6/26. BBC Sounds will bring together the biggest Glastonbury moments from across BBC Radio, over 20 archive performances and curated collections of back-to-back sets.

“There are so many memorable sets being played across the BBC over what would have been our 50th anniversary weekend,” Emily Eavis said. “Personally, I’m looking forward to a weekend of reflecting on the history of our festival and going back to some classic performances from David Bowie, Adele, R.E.M., Beyoncé, The Rolling Stones, Jay-Z, Billie Eilish and lots more. Me and my dad will definitely be watching!”
