BLACK MUSIC MONTH SPECIAL: HIP-HOP FROM THE DROP

Our forthcoming Black Music Month special will trace the history of the musical form that now dominates the world, culturally, economically and otherwise. From its roots in house parties and streetcorner freestyles of the '70s through the commercial explosion of the '90s all the way to the tracks now ruling the streaming charts, hip-hop has never stopped evolving—and as the past and present violence, inequality and unrest in America underscore, its voice has been essential in speaking truth to power. We'll be exploring all of that and more as we dig into the story of an American art form. Stay tuned.
