ARTISTS MAKE THEIR VOICES HEARD (UPDATE)

Artists and athletes are taking to social media to effect change in the wake of riots following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Beyoncé is leading a petition drive, Jay-Z has reached out to the governor of Minnesota and others are offering their takes on the situation.

Beyoncé is leading four petition drives and has taken to Instagram to discuss the cause of Black Lives Matter.

Jay-Z spoke with the governor of Minnesota.

Lady Gaga encourages calmer dialogue and an acknowledgement that more needs to be done for the black community.

Ariana Grande took issue with media coverage; Chance the Rapper has tweeted that “damaging property is not violent.”

P!nk and Taylor Swift tore into Trump.

Billie Eilish takes offense at the term “All Lives Matter.”

LeBron James asks, “why doesn’t America love us too?” and quotes Nas. The normally politically quiet Michael Jordan issued a statement as well.

Lil Yachty and Halsey take to the streets. (See their posts below).

In a letter on Facebook, Wynton Marsalis wrote, “we refight our Civil War every day. It was interesting hearing Keisha Lance Bottoms, the Mayor of Atlanta and Killer Mike both reference the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement and this moment in one breath. They put this present moment in its proper context – a continuation of the struggle for human rights and civil liberties against the legacy of slavery and unapologetic racism."

LL Cool J has written a new rap.

As more artists speak out, we'll be updating this post.
