Facebook has finally rolled out their anticipated TikTok-competing app, Reels, within Instagram. With Reels, users can create 15-second videos with original audio, AR effects and music from the Instagram library. Clips can be shared directly to friends or made public for anybody to view within the Explore feed on the platform.

Reels arrives following a controversial year for rival TikTok, which has faced scrutiny from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the U.S. government and most recently, President Trump for lack of data security and ties to China. New TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer criticized Facebook for disguising their attacks on TikTok as "patriotism," while blatantly making a copycat product (Reels).
