Word has it that the MTV Video Music Awards on 8/30 will take as its primary theme the resilience of New York City. Produced, we're told, with the cooperation of both state and city government, the telecast will boast performances by Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, BTS, The Weeknd, Miley Cyrus, Black Eyed Peas and Maluma featuring CNCO.
Look for lots of loving footage of the Manhattan skyline and tributes to the city’s frontline workers, with remotes from the five boroughs.
Several of the aforementioned musical segments are said to include surprise guests; most were pre-taped, while a handful will be live. They were recorded on both coasts (and, in one notable instance, South Korea); insiders say the NYC taping went off without a hitch, while the L.A. portion had some issues regarding health and safety protocols.
No word yet on whether or not actual moon suits will be furnished to presenters, but we understand they’re quite effective in slowing the spread of most viruses.
