MONDO.NYC AND THE RIAA ON MUSIC POLICY

Mondo.NYC kicked off its 5th annual conference on 10/12 with panels, conversations and workshops to virtually connect people, foster learning opportunities, collaborations and more. During Wednesday’s panels, the RIAA partnered with Mondo once again to host their annual series, “Everything You Need to Know About Music Policy in One Hour.”

Speakers included The Mechanical Licensing Collective CEO, Kris Ahrend; Music Artists Coalition Board Member, Jordan Bromley; First Avenue CEO/NIVA Board President, Dayna Frank; RIAA Chairman/CEO Mitch Glazier and SVP Research & Economics Josh Friedlander; SAG-AFTRA’s Sarah Howes; 50/50 CEO/Co-Founder of Black Music Action Coalition, Prophet; Music Business Association President, Dr. Portia Sabin; and Acting Register of Copyrights, U.S. Copyright Office, Maria Strong.

From a crash course on Section 512 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), to the discussion of California’s AB5, racial justice advocacy and accountability in the music industry and the Mechanical Licensing Collective, which was created by the Music Modernization Act of 2018, the panel shared key information about current music policy.

Following the presentation, Chair and Interim President/CEO of the Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr., and Grammy-nominated artist Aloe Blacc took part in a Keynote conversation.
