CHART STORY: ROCK'S POWER-FUL RETURN

Rock heroes AC/DC light up the HITS Top 50, as their 17th studio album, Power Up (Columbia), blasts to #1, with 120k units. The Hall of Famers’ bow makes them the first legacy rock act to top the chart since Tool’s Fear Inoculum more than a year ago; it’s also AC/DC’s first #1 bow since 2008’s Black Ice.

Following, at #2, is Future & Lil Uzi Vert’s Pluto x Baby Pluto (Freebandz/Epic/Generation Now/Atlantic). The week’s most-streamed project, it posted 105k. Close behind is Chris Stapleton’s critically acclaimed, roots-rocking Starting Over (Mercury Nashville), which snags the #3 slot, with 102k.

Republic holdovers Ariana Grande and Pop Smoke round out the Top 5, with Positions and Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon (Victor Victor), respectively.

A wave of catalog titles impacts the Top 50 following a huge vinyl sale at Walmart. Big movers include Queen’s Greatest Hits (#7, +165%), Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours (#10, +78%), CCR’s Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits (#18), Bob Marley & the WailersLegend (#20) and Nirvana’s self-titled album (#27).

Christmas releases also begin their seasonal takeover of the chart, with RCA’s Pentatonix landing two titles in the Top 50, followed by holiday albums from Michael Bublé, Carrie Underwood and Dolly Parton.

Streeting this week are projects from Big Hit/Columbia’s BTS, Reprise’s Josh Groban, Def Jam’s Jeezy and South Coast/Interscope’s DaBaby.
