In honor of Black History Month, LyricFind is applauding the legacies of Black activists whose impact has been reflected in song.
Using their own data, LyricFind compiled song references to, among others, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, who topped their chart with more than 600 combined mentions; they’ve been cited together in lyrics 31 times.
LyricFind's infographic also features Rosa Parks, Fred Hampton, Jackie Robinson, Harriet Tubman, Jesse Jackson and Angela Davis, as well as international figures like Nelson Mandela and Marcus Garvey, the latter suggesting the endurance of Pan-African movements.
Also exhibited are pivotal instances of Black activism. See below for a fuller picture.
