MUSICARES HONORS THE COMMUNITY

MusiCaresMusic on a Mission kicked off their star-studded Grammy Week event on 3/12. In lieu of the in-person Person of the Year gala, the annual fundraiser virtually recognized the resilience of the music community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Featuring performances by BTS—who received their first Grammy nom this year—HAIM, Jhené Aiko, John Legend and H.E.R., the 90-minute ticketed event was open to the public and drew in over 18,000 people.

The event also featured archival performances from the MusiCares vault, such as Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty’s rendition of their 1981 classic, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” from 2017, Lady Gaga’s 2014 performance of Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend” as well as more from Usher and Bruce Springsteen.

King, the Jonas Brothers, Ledisi, Lionel Richie, Macklemore, Mick Fleetwood, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Shakira and Jesse & Joy were also among the special guests in virtual attendance.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, MusiCares has distributed more than $22m to help more than 25,000 people across the industry.

Sponsors for the event include Amazon Music, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Greenberg Traurig LLP, ASCAP, Live Nation and SoundCloud.
