MEET JAIN: A GLOBAL POP SENSATION
IN THE MAKING

BY SAMANTHA HISSONG

Parisian powerhouse JAIN—signed to RCA out here in the States—delivered an abundance of infectious, worldly bangers that prove welcoming to all when she dropped her debut album, Zanaka, at the end of 2015.

Her latest single, “Come,” reached new heights following her explosive performance on the televised Les Victoires de la Musique (essentially the French Grammys), where she won Female Artist of the Year. These career-defining moments aided in propelling the set to platinum sales in France. That said, the “Come” music video currently boasts a wildly impressive 56m+ views.

The troubadour—albeit tiny—managed to fill the stage with her immense presence at none other than, yes, The Troubadour in L.A. on Wednesday night (3/22). She had the sold-out crowd completely captivated during “Come” and an array of other songs, including Zanaka standouts like “Lil Mama” and “Makeba.” With folk intelligence and inclusiveness, pop power, alternative swagger and a dance-inducing electronic backbone, JAIN managed to defy genre and lift spirits.

Zanaka means “childhood” in Malagasy (her mother’s native tongue), which makes perfect sense when her playfulness, lack of inhibition and pure joy is realized in recordings and on stage.

JAIN's North American tour—with support from buzzing indie act Two Feet—kicked off on 3/12 in Nashville and wraps on 4/10 in Philly. See a full list of dates here.
