AIMP TALKS MMA/MLC UPDATES
5/22/20

AIMP L.A. Chapter recently presented "Update on the MMA/MLC," the latest in their series of weekly webinars. Moderated by NMPA’s EVP & General Counsel Danielle Aguirre, the webinar gathered leadership from The MLC and the U.S. Copyright Office to discuss where the organization stands as it prepares to implement the Music Modernization Act (MMA).

With panelists including MLC CEO Kris Ahrend, MLC Chair, ABKO Music & Records' COO and AIMP N.Y. Chapter President Alisa Coleman, MLC Board Members Bart Herbison of NSAI and Tim Cohan of peermusic, General Counsel and Associate Register of Copyrights at the U.S. Copyright Office Regan A. Smith, updates were provided on everything from hiring to technology, rights-holder outreach and education.

The MLC currently counts 20 staff members and will be launching an upcoming portal that’ll allow rights-holders to see their data as well as identify unmatched plays of their work and claim them, including international rights-holders whose tracks are streamed in the U.S.

Additionally, prior to the panel, the AIMP L.A. Chapter presented the inaugural Linda Komorsky Liker AIMP Scholarship Award to its first recipient, Angela McPhee. Awarded $5k to help continue her education, the rising senior is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Industry from USC’s Thornton School of Music.
