ARTIST DISCOVERY: KIM PETRAS
9/25/17

Two of Kim Petras' songs were featured on Spotify's frequented New Music Friday playlist this past week. It's time to pay attention.

The Los Angeles-based, German pop songstress—signed to Maverick for management—has been working with a team of skilled producers and writers to craft danceable music as unapologetic as her. With the help of Aaron Joseph, Dr. Luke, Cirkut and others, Petras is entering the scene.

Synthy jam and debut single "I Don't Want It All" has already gone #1 on Spotify's Global Viral 50, and it's currently approaching 3m streams on the service.

Meanwhile, "Hillside Boys" and "Hills" are also pulling ears toward Petras, whose Spotify page boasts close to 1m monthly listeners.

“I have unique experiences and have had unique experiences, because I am transgender,” the buzzing artist has explained. “Those experiences one-hundred percent go into my music. Being the outcast and being bullied makes you work harder in life. I had to fight for everything, because I was not the cool kid and had very few friends. At the same time, I’m just a girl going through heartbreak. It feels the same way to me as any other girl would feel about it. Whether or not you connect with people has nothing to do with your gender or sexuality.”
