WHAT IT IS: The son of reggae legend Papa San, BEAM—which stands for “Be Everything and More”—grew up around music in South Florida as an immigrant from Kingston, Jamaica. Having secured several production credits, BEAM, aka Tyshane Thompson, also became a Grammy-winning producer as a teenager, leading him to work with acts including 21 Savage, 2 Chainz, Lecrae and Yo Gotti. Breaking down and rebuilding the idea of genre, the producer/rapper/singer dishes razor-sharp raps, pop ambition, reggae rhythms and otherworldly experimentation into a global hybrid, highlighted by his robust and adaptable voice.
