HANCOCK FORMS INDIE LABEL

"Multigenre" Music Label Transparent Music To Target Audience, Sell Records, Make Money

Herbie Hancock has formed Transparent Music, an independent label and multimedia entertainment group.

Hancock is expected to formally announce his venture, a collaborative effort among Hancock, talent manager and producer David Passick and former Verve Records president Chuck Mitchell, today during Digital Hollywood's technology event in New York, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Passick said the trio's goal in forming Transparent was to create a multigenre music label geared to "a very vibrant record-buying audience that wasn't your typical MTV, Top 40 record buyer."

Although Transparent will have an online presence, it will also have a traditional brick-and-mortar component with RED Distribution serving as the company's distributor for audio and video products.
