TRUMPET SOUNDS FOR CLIVE

Davis Becomes Eighth Non-African American
To Receive Honor

J Records founder Clive Davis was honored at The Trumpet Awards, a salute to African Americans who have made outstanding achievements in the fields of medicine, literature, education, politics, sports, business and entertainment, that aired Saturday (2/24) on TBS.

Only eight non-African Americans have received the honor to date. This year, Davis will join that elite group. Other honorees include baseball legend Willie Mays, music pioneer Ray Charles, actress Leslie Uggams, choreographer Geoffrey Holder, rocket scientist Jacqueline Mims, Justice Thurgood Marshall and many more.

The Trumpet Awards, which recognize "outstanding individuals who symbolize the many that have overcome the ills of racism, poverty and other barriers to achieve special greatness," were founded in 1993. At press time, sources couldn't confirm the awards were invented by Clive Davis.
