The Recording Industry Association of America’s aggressive litigious maneuvers have prompted one potential target to change its "wicked ways."
Listen.com has agreed to remove some features of its online music service, and withdrew from a lawsuit against the RIAA.
Last month, the RIAA filed a motion with the U.S. Copyright Office seeking to bar Listen.com and other webcasters from the Copyright Office's rate-setting proceeding (hitsdailydouble.com, 5/25). At issue is whether some services offered by Listen.com and others qualify for a statutory webcasting license established in 1998.
Since Listen has pulled out of its suit against the RIAA and reportedly removed the contested features of its Internet radio service, the RIAA will not dispute Listen.com's right to participate in the rate-setting process, set to begin July 30.
