WEEK IN PREVIEW: MARY J. BLIGE, HILARY DUFF BRING IT

Hip-Hop Soulstress, Teen Idol to Enter Chart at #1 and #2, Respectively
As the tallying of sales reports continues, late word is that Mary J. Blige’s new set, Love & Life (Geffen), will indeed make its mark, selling between 280k and 300k for the week by the time all is said and done. That’s a solid #1 album-chart debut brewing, folks.

Meanwhile, teen queen Hillary Duff (a.k.a. Lizzie McGuire) is on track to enter the chart at #2, as her debut album, Metamorphosis (Buena Vista), appears headed for a first-week total of between 180k and 200k.

Last week’s MTV Video Music Awards appear to have had their usual positive effect on the marketplace, while the traditionally slow Labor Day weekend was, well, slow. More on this as the numbers become clearer.
