Naughty Boy/David Joseph

NAUGHTY, NICE: Recently we wondered aloud about the highly competitive U.K. derby for producer/artist Naughty Boy's label; now we can report that the deal for Naughty Boy Records is done and David Joseph's Universal U.K. is the winner. The leader of the market-dominating U.K. juggernaut—who exemplifies Lucian Grainge's mantra that this is a global business—is also about to have a festive week at retail, as he brings out Lana Del Rey's hotly anticipated new album and continues to enjoy strong sales with Sam Smith (who debuted at #1 and is currently #3). Speaking of thinking globally, both records street in the U.S. this week; Lana's currently expected to bow in the 175-200k range when she hits next week's chart, while Sam looks likely to move 125-150k. These predictions are highly subject to change, of course. (6/16a)
