AN ANIMATED DISCUSSION: DreamWorks Animation wants a piece of VEVO, Peter Kafka reports on re/code (formerly All Things D). Unnamed industry sources tell Kafka that DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg submitted a bid to UMG, Sony Music and Abu Dhabi Media last week, though it wasn’t clear whether he was looking to buy a controlling stake in the company or proposing a minority investment. Last year, Google bought a small stake in VEVO in a deal that valued it at around $650 million. Guggenheim Partners has pursued VEVO, while two other potential buyers—John Malone’s Liberty Media and the Chernin Group, run by former News Corp. exec Peter Chernin—are also reportedly kicking the tires. Sources say Katzenberg has recruited former Hulu CEO Andy Forssell to help with his VEVO bid. Last year, Lucian Grainge joined DreamWorks Animation’s board. (4/14a)
