Governors Ball

IT’S NOT THE HEAT, IT’S THE HUMIDITY: Governors Ball, which has taken place every summer since 2001 on Randall’s Island, sitting in the East River between Manhattan and Queens, is New York City’s closest equivalent to SoCal’s standard-setting Coachella. A mix of name acts pushing new records, genre standard-bearers and local heroes, the 2014 Governors Ball lineup is nearly as loaded as the April desert ritual in Indio. This year’s edition, set for 6/6-8, promises headliners and major draws including OutKast, Jack White, Vampire Weekend, The Strokes, Julian Casablancas, Phoenix, Skrillex, Bastille, Tyler, the Creator, Interpol, Foster the People, Disclosure, J. Cole, Spoon, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Grimes, Broken Bells, Damon Albarn, James Blake, Empire of the Sun, The Kills, Sleigh Bells and Earl Sweatshirt. Click on the poster for the day-by-day lineups. Single-day tix go on sale this Friday at GovBall.com. The event is produced not by or AEG but by the upstart NYC-based indie promoter Founders Entertainment. (4/2a)
