Morrissey signs with Harvest

HARVEST HOME: PoMo icon Morrissey has inked a worldwide recording agreement with Harvest, label GMs Piero Giramonti and Jacqueline Saturn announced this morning. The artist will begin recording of his first album of new material in five years later this month in France with his longtime band and producer Joe Chiccarelli. Capitol Music Group ruler Steve Barnett hailed Morrissey as “one of music’s most important and influential artists” and “the rare soul who has stayed consistently true to his artistic vision and ethical principles since he first exploded onto the scene in the 1980s. We are so happy that…his forthcoming album on Harvest will bring new Morrissey music to the world—and I’m personally delighted that he’s just signed my first-edition picture-sleeve 45 of ‘Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now.’” CMG EVP Michelle Jubelirer described Morrissey as “uncompromising in his integrity, extremely devoted to his fans and an artist with a unique and needed voice in our culture,” adding, “Moz—cool!” The celebrated artist, who says he’s “thrilled” about being on this new iteration of Harvest, which has been designed to function like an indie within a major, and thanks to signings such as Banks, has quickly acquired a coolness factor akin to that of indies like XL.
