Bob Gruen doc on Showtime

THROUGH A LENS GRITTILY: Bob Gruen, the New York-based photographer and chronicler of the city’s music scene from the early ’70s onward, is the subject of a new documentary film by Don Letts. Rock 'N' Roll Exposed: The Photography of Bob Gruen premieres Thursday, June 13, at 7 p.m. (ET/PT) on Showtime. During his early days, the Jewfro’d Gruen made a name for himself shooting the New York Dolls in all their raunchy splendor, and soon thereafter was chosen by John Lennon as his personal photographer. He went on to document the punk scene at Max's Kansas City and CBGB's, shooting The Ramones, Blondie and Patti Smith, along with visiting dignitaries like Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, David Bowie and The Clash. Among those interviewed for the doc were Yoko Ono, Iggy Pop, Green Day, Alice Cooper, Tommy Ramone and Debbie Harry. Subsequent airings are listed here. (5/30a)
