streaming revenues now surpass $1 billion annually

GOING TO EX-STREAMS: In what it bills as an “exclusive,” Digital Music News reports that streaming revenues now surpass $1 billion annually in the U.S., according to stats shared with DMN by the RIAA. "Collectively, [access services] went from just 3% of total industry revenues in 2007 to 15 percent in 2012, totaling over $1 billion for the year," said an RIAA rep. The exact tally is $1.033 billion, while 3.4 million Americans now subscribe to one service or another. Streaming revenues are still just a fraction of CD revenues, however, and CDs are tanking, as DMN puts it. According to the RIAA, CD sales generated $2.5 billion in 2012, though digital formats (including downloads) now account for nearly 60% of overall recorded industry revenues.
