R. Kelly has vocal setback

“I BELIEVE I CAN’T SING”: Add R. Kelly to the list of major artists (that would be Adele, John Mayer and, just days ago,, Maxwell) who’ve been forced to pull the plug on planned performances due to severe vocal issues. The RCA artist has been forced to cancel a appearances on The Today Show this morning and Fallon tomorrow night—both key appearances in promoting his new album, Write Me Back, which hit on Tuesday—and has "returned to Chicago for medical treatment," according to a statement distributed by his publicity firm, 42West. But the statement left some room for error, the L.A. Times pointed out. "Initial indications are that he is suffering from complications from surgery he had last year to treat an abscess on his vocal cords," it read. But Kelly’s surgery last year was on his tonsils. Though there’s no tour planned, his Love Letter Cruise is set to sail from Miami in October. (6/28a)
