Soundgarden on Avengers Soundtrack

GRUNGE AVENGERS: Soundgarden will release their first new song in 15 years for the Marvel/Hollywood Records soundtrack to the upcoming Avengers film (see trailer embedded below). The group's last album was released in 1996, although they officially reunited in 2010. "We've been hard at work on our new album, which will come out this fall," the band said in a statement. "When the opportunity arose to write an original song for Marvel's The Avengers film…we thought it could be a cool match." The film's compilation, titled Avengers Assemble, features bands like Shinedown, Rise Against, Papa Roach, Bush, Scott Weiland, Redlight King, Theory of a Deadman, Buckcherry, Five Finger Death Punch, Cherri Bomb and Black Veil Brides, among others. The movie, starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson, hits theaters on May 4, while the soundtrack drops May 1. (3/27p)
