Google, Amazon 25-Cent Sales
A QUARTER FOR YOUR THOUGHTS: As we hipped you to last week, much-maligned Google Music made a bold move last week, placing an album a day on sale for 25 cents, which was then copied by Amazon. The sale included releases from UMG and EMI, including Now 41, Lady Antebellum’s Own the Night, Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto, Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV and Drake's Take Care, which will play havoc with tomorrow's charts. Since all titles have been out for over a month, they will chart at SoundScan, which amended its system after Lady Gaga’s Born This Way sold for 99 cents at Amazon last year to not include all albums priced under $3.49 during their first four weeks of release.
