Weakend Movie Box Office

YOUR WEAKEND MOVIE BOX OFFICE: New Line/WB’s New Year’s Eve topped the weekend box office with a desultory $13.7 million for a per-screen average of $3,910, clearly a disappointment for the heavily promoted film. Fox’s bady reviewed The Sitter, a star vehicle for Jonah Hill, debuted at #2 with $10m and a per-screen average of $3,636. Summit’s The Twilight Saga dipped to #3 with another $7.9 million, bringing its total to nearly $260m. Buena Vista’s The Muppets nabbed another $7m, to bring its three-week total to nearly $66m, while Sony’s Arthur Christmas cashed in another $6.6m, bringing its total to $34m. The rest of the Top 10 was rounded out by Paramount’s Hugo ($6.1/$33.5m), Fox Searchlight's The Descendants ($4.8m/$23.7m), WB’s Happy Feet Two ($3.7m/$56.8.), Sony’s Jack and Jill ($3.2m/$68.6m) and Relativity’s Immortals ($2.4m/$80m).
