Huge demand for iPhone 5

MUNSTER PREDICTS A MONSTER: Although a delay in the arrival of the iPhone 5 reported yesterday in AllThingsD could cut into quarterly sales by 2 million units (see Dot-Dot-Dot-Com), don’t feel too bad for Apple. According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, the demand for the next iPhone is through the roof. “We recently surveyed a small sample of 216 mobile phone users about their phones and carriers,” Munster wrote. “Survey results were positive for Apple’s iPhone. Among our respondents the iPhone’s marketshare could more than double throughout the next round of phone purchases. Our survey also shows significant pent up demand for the next iPhone, particularly at Verizon. Among VZ subscribers that do not already have an iPhone, 55% expect their next phone to be an iPhone; the majority of those (74%) are specifically waiting for the iPhone 5.” (8/2a)
