GO WEST YOUNG MAN: Kanye West’s new Roc-A-Fella/IDJ album, My Beautiful Dark Fantasy, has been getting some raves, including a rare five-star review in Rolling Stone, and it is quite a spectacular achievement. As always, West has plumbed a variety of different samples, revealing his eclectic tastes. Among them: Mike Oldfield’s “In High Places” (“Dark Fantasy”), The Byrds’ “You Showed Me” (“Gorgeous”), King Crimson’s “21st Century Schizoid Man” (“Power”), Manfred Mann’s Earth Band’s “You Are - I Am” (“So Appalled”), “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” (“Devil in a New Dress”), Mojo Men’s “She’s My Baby” (“Hell of a Life”), “Soul Makossa” (“Love in the World”) and Gil Scott-Heron’s “Comment No. 1” (“Who Will Survive in America”). Among the cameos are Elton John, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, the Gap Band’s Charlie Wilson, Fergie, Nicki Minaj, Kid Cudi, Rick Ross, Chris Rock, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Pusha T and La Roux’s Elly Jackson.
