BMI Honors Film/TV Composers

BMI HONORS FILM/TV COMPOSERS: Rachel Portman, Terence Blanchard, T-Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham were honored by BMI at its annual Film/TV Music Awards at L.A.’s Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Portman received the Richard Kirk Award for composers who have made significant contributions to film and television music. As the first woman film composer to win an Oscar, Portman’s scores include the Academy Award-winning Emma, Nicholas Nickelby and The Manchurian Candidate, among others. Portman received Grammy and Oscar nominations for Cider House Rules, as well as Oscar and Golden Globe noms for Chocolat. The Classic Contribution Award went to Terence Blanchard, along with Burnett and Bingham, who received an Oscar for Best Original Song for their collaboration, “The Weary Kind (Theme from Crazy Heart).” A complete list of last night’s winners can be found at www.bmi.com.
