Apple in the Clouds

CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF REIGN: Apple plans to unveil its cloud-based streaming music service later this year, according to CNet’s Greg Sandoval, though it won’t be in time for this Saturday’s launch of the iPad. Apple will instead focus the iPad on visuals, with movies, games, books and newspapers. In December, Apple acquired music service Lala for $85 million, leading to talk of a possible cloud-based streaming service. Since then, Apple has also expanded its browser-based iTunes Preview service, which allows users to search and sample songs and applications without launching the desktop. (3/31p)
