Birdman Takes Best Picture, more; Selma Theme Wins Song

It was Birdman's night, as the magical-realist showbiz fable won Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Director honors at the 87th Oscars.

As expected, Eddie Redmayne took Best Actor for The Theory of Everything, Julianne Moore nabbed Best Actress for Still Alice, and J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette earned supporting statuettes for Whiplash and Boyhood, respectively.

Best Song went to Common and John Legend for "Glory" from Selma; the pair's performance earned a standing O and has catapulted the song into the iTunes Top 5 more Oscar retail repercussions here). Their stirring acceptance speech tied the historic Selma march to struggles for liberation and equality around the globe.

Other musical performers included Maroon 5, Rita Ora, Tim McGraw (singing the Glen Campbell swan song "I'm Not Gonna Miss You"), Tegan and Sara with The Lonely Island (and a ton of Lego Oscars), Jennifer Hudson and Lady Gaga, whose bravura Sound of Music medley brought tears of joy to the eyes of Julie Andrews.
